About South Australian Privately Practising Midwives (SAPPM)

On behalf of South Australian Privately Practising Midwives, we welcome you!

The South Australian Privately Practising Midwives Association (SAPPM) is comprised of midwives who meet regularly in order promote the purpose of the association, as detailed in the association rules. Other purposes of this association are to provide peer support, facilitate education opportunities, and assist members in compliance with the Safety and Quality Guidelines for Privately Practising Midwives (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA] 2017) and all other regulatory and legislative requirements for safe practice.
To be a member of SAPPM you must support the association rules and meet the following eligibility criteria:
Eligibility requirements:

  • The applicant must be working in or towards private practice. This includes non-endorsed registered midwives working as back up midwives, or towards endorsement and wish to work in practice.
    • Full Membership – $300 – voting rights, website feature, as well as attendance requirement (see below).
    • Associate Membership – $180 – attend meetings (no requirement for minimum attendance), no advertising on website and no voting privileges. Student midwives who wish to work in private practice can join as an associate member.
    • Student Membership – $100 – only valid for12 months that the registered midwife if completing the study component towards their endorsement, no website or voting rights.
  • The Full Membership applicant must attend a minimum of four meetings per financial year, in person or by zoom. A minimum of two of these need to be general meetings (not education sessions).
  • All applicants must want to actively participate in the education component of the group. This entails suggesting ideas and assisting in sourcing presenters.
  • Pay an annual membership fee, following the financial year. Regardless of when a member joins the membership is for one financial year, due the end of August.
